One exciting growing area of Applied Improvisation is in healthcare.
For the last few years, Improv Initiative has been developing a programme of advanced communication training for medics of all specialties and qualification level, including doctors, nurses, carers, receptionists and many others.
Improv Initiative director Jon Trevor has combined forces with Dr Esther Waterhouse, Consultant in Palliative Medicine and communication skills trainer, to deliver Applied Improvisation training to healthcare staff throughout the UK, both as invited inhouse trainers to various NHS trusts, or at their own training symposiums.
Testimonials
Feedback from participants at previous training:
This was an incredible day – great to do something different but still relevant, really made me think about my interactions, listening and communicating. Would highly recommend this course to all! (And would love to do a second day of skills 2 if was an option
Really enjoyed the day. Good to look at things from another perspective.
it was interesting to actually understand how …human factors actually influence our practice and interaction
Highlighted the importance of being present in a conversation and actively listening as opposed to knowing how to appear as though you are listening
This was a different style of teaching that made me really think about shared decision making and the shared agenda
